Fifth and Sixth graders are beginning a conversation around safe and responsible online communication. The classes began by taking a short survey asking how often students are talking online and whether they are talking with people they know or people they do not know. Students are transferring their experiences to discuss digital responsibility in school, at home, and in a digital world. If you didn't take the survey yet, please do so here. PreSchool AdventuresWhat a treat to be invited into the woods to read to PreSchool students. We read The Secret Shortcut by Mark Teague. In the story, two boys are chronically late for school. Because Wendell and Floyd have a problem getting to school on time, they decide to take a shortcut which leads to unexpected adventures
Kindergarten students studied Photography this spring. Over 4 sessions they learned about safe camera handling, explored different photography techniques, and created a collage of their favorite photos. On our first day of this Photography exploration, Kindergarten students defined technology as, "technology class", "logging in", "passwords", "storybird", and "KidsKeys". We realized that these ideas all related to the computer. It was exciting to introduce a different aspect of technology and hear, "Cameras are computers", "Cameras are electronics", and "Electronics are the same as technology". |
